December is one of those months that feels like it goes by super slow but it flies by at the same time. It’s full of celebrations, special projects, concerts, and if you’re in a colder region like I am, you’ll have some snow days sprinkled in there as well.
Despite the chaos that takes place during those three-ish weeks of school, there always seems to be these awkward pockets of time that are a little too long to use as a transition or down time but also aren’t really long enough to start something new. I like to use these times to share some of my favorite holiday stories with my tiny humans. At the beginning of December, I take a few minutes to go through my classroom library and pull out some of my holiday favorites to keep in a bin so they’re always easily accessible when these random pockets of time pop up in our day.
There are a handful of picture books that ALWAYS make it into my holiday bin. Today I’m sharing five of them with you. Keep reading to find out what they are!
What’s a girl to do when all she wants for her birthday is to meet a reindeer but it’s the middle of summer? Write a letter to Santa, of course! When Santa sends one of his reindeer to her house, he includes strict instructions to NOT let the reindeer meet a unicorn. But here’s the problem…this die-hard reindeer fan also had a reindeer but Santa most certainly was talking about wild unicorns and not hers…or was he?
All of the other reindeer? Or is it Olive, the other reindeer? After hearing her name in the infamous Christmas song, Olive heads right to the North Pole to join Santa’s crew. Will she be able to help guide Santa’s sleigh?
When Captain Bling and his crew set off in search of treasure, they’re blown off course and land at the North Pole. After seeing all of the elves wrapping presents, they’re sure they’ve found the ultimate treasure so they steal the presents and head back to the ship. They think they’ve escaped Santa but when he catches up, he has quite the surprise for the pirates!
It’s Christmas and Rudolf is too sick to lead the sleigh. Rudolf suggests that his sister, Ruby, fill his spot but Ruby is a little on the naughty side. Will she make sure all of the gifts are delivered successfully or will she add some chaos to Christmas Eve?
Moose was feeling merry and bright but he was also busy! He filled out his cards, shopped till he dropped, wrapped all of his gifts, did all of his holiday cooking, and decorated his whole house but there was one VERY important thing that he forgot….the tree. Moose heads out at the last minute to try to find a tree and doesn’t have any luck but then he has an idea! Could his moosetache save the day?
I hope you found a fresh title or two to share with your tiny humans. Picture books are my absolute FAVORITE and I’m always on the lookout for new titles that I can share with my tiny humans. If you have a holiday favorite that didn’t make the list, share it in the comments below!
