To say that the classroom looks different this year would be an understatement. Tiny humans have a lot of questions about germs, viruses, and how to stay healthy. It was hard to choose my favorites but I’ve rounded up five must-have picture books about germs for you to share with your students.
This book isn’t so much about germs as it is the importance of wearing a mask. In this story, Little Spot explains that there is a virus going around, and wearing a mask the right way will help minimize the spread. Little Spot provides step by step instructions for safely putting a mask on and taking it off, as well as suggestions for getting comfortable with wearing it.
Who knew germs liked cupcakes?! Energy cupcakes, that is. This book is perfect for teaching tiny humans proper handwashing techniques by explaining all of the different safe zones that germs have on your hands.
Follow the journey of germs and find out just how far they travel from Rudy’s uncovered sneeze. The colorful illustrations and funny dialogue will help tiny humans understand how easy it is for germs to travel and simple ways that they can reduce the spread.
Simon is a germ hero! However, when it comes to being sick while around friends and family, that’s not exactly what one wants to be. The germs help Simon understand how he’s earned the title of Germ Hero which in turn helps him (and tiny humans) learn the importance of handwashing, rest, hydration, and staying home when you’re sick.
The little princess simply doesn’t understand why she has to wash her hands when she JUST washed them. She washed when she came in from playing outside, she washed when she was done going potty, and she washed after she played with the dog. Why does she need to do it again?! This book is PERFECT for tiny humans who need help understanding why it’s important to wash hands and wash them frequently.
As always, I love to add new titles to my list of books to share. Is there a germ book that you LOVE that I haven’t listed here? Let me know by leaving a comment below!
